چکیده

This paper proposes novel cooperative navigation solutions for an Intervention Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (I-AUV) working in tandem with an Autonomous Surface Craft (ASC). The I-AUV is assumed to be moving in the presence of constant unknown ocean currents, and aims to estimate its position relying on measurements of its range to the ASC. Two different scenarios are considered: in the first scenario, the ASC transmits its position and velocity to the I-AUV, and the I-AUV has access to readings of D. Viegas (B) · P. Batista · P. In the second scenario, the ASC transmits only its position, and the I-AUV has access to measurements of its velocity relative to the ASC. In both cases, it is assumed that an Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) mounted on-board the I-AUV provides measurements of its attitude and angular velocity. A sufficient condition for observability and a method for designing state observers with Globally Asymptotically Stable (GAS) error dynamics are presented for both problems. Finally, simulation results are included and discussed to assess the performance of the proposed solutions in the presence of measurement noise.

Cooperative Localization for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles

This paper describes an algorithm for distributed acoustic navigation for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). Whereas typical AUV navigation systems utilize pre-calibrated arrays of static transponders, our work seeks to create a fully mobile network of AUVs that perform acoustic ranging and data exchange with one another to achieve cooperative positioning for extended duration missions over...

A Nonlinear Vision Based Tracking System for Coordinated Control of Marine Vehicles

A nonlinear vision based tracking system is developed to provide estimates of the position and velocity of an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) relative to an Autonomous Surface Craft (ASC). Nonlinear estimator design builds on the theory of linear parametrically varying (LPV) systems. The theoretical framework adopted provides a powerful tool for estimator regional stability and performance ...

Least Squares Techniques for GPS Receivers Positioning Filter using Pseudo-range and Carrier Phase Measurements

In present study, using Least Squares (LS) method, we determine the position smoothing in GPS single-frequency receiver by means of pseudo-range and carrier phase measurements. The application of pseudo-range or carrier phase measurements in GPS receiver positioning separately can lead to defects. By means of pseudo-range data, we have position with less precision and more distortion. By use of...

On the Optimization of State Observers for Applica- Tion in Navigation of Low Cost Autonomous Vehicles

Marine Autonomous Vehicles, either Surface (ASV) or Underwater (AUV) are becoming the kingpin for ocean research and sea exploration. Long term and high persistence are highly desirable characteristics for adding to these autonomous platforms. The possibility of performing adequate tasks by using low cost underwater vehicles could multiply the number of agents in the area and therefore, providi...
